The hotel is just walking distance to the pier and coop shop. there are a lot of restaurants around the area as well. A perfect place if you want to explore around orkney's highlights such as skara brea, ring of brodgar and yesnaby cliffs. there is a cycle hire near the hotel as bus times are really hard to come by. I like my room, despite is budget friendly, it has the view of the sea and a decent space. Receptionist Ula is amazing and approachable, she greeted me at the entrance and oriented me to the place such as fire exit, alarm tests (at a certain day) and the restaurant for breakfast, shes also knowledgeable around the area. There are other workers during that time as they are doing a bit of renovation but everyone is friendly and welcoming. the renovation didnt bother me at all. i had a good nights sleep and the bed is so comfortable. The second day I met Ellie, another receptionist which is also great, we had a good conversation about Orkney. would come back again and definitely book to this place again

The hotel is a sort of antique, but it is just fit my likings. The meals in the restaurant is excellent. Especially the fish and chip which my daughter ordered. Very fresh. I only met one hotel staff during my staff. He is very kind and helpful. Private parking location is in the the back of the hotel but up on the hill in the back. Which needs some patience to find it out even with a simple map put on the front desk. Afterall, with that price tag, I am very satisfied. Adam

The hotel’s hallways, main stairwell, and other shared spaces have a beautifully restored antique charm that might make you think the rooms are going to be quaint but perhaps tired or rustic— not so! Our room was the most spacious and tastefully updated we stayed in during several weeks of traveling in northern Scotland. The hotel is a lovely and well situated home base from which to enjoy Stromness’s little downtown and explore Orkney Island’s fascinations.

Fantastic central location, especially for the Orkney Folk Festival. Walk everywhere in Stromness. Very comfy bed, warm rooms, strong Wi-fi signal, free parking and great breakfasts every morning. iain and Chrissy were so friendly, welcoming and efficient. We felt a bit sad to leave after such a great week. Although the Stromness Hotel is not licenced, the Ferry Inn, Royal Hotel and British Legion bars are conveniently close.

Victorian hotel which has recently been taken over! Decorated in new old fashioned wallpaper to match the hotel. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. We stayed in February when everything closed down and out of season so no food available. Receptionist told us we could go to the only pub the Royal and order Chinese takeout and either eat at pub or if we wanted at the hotel. we opted for the pub as it was much warmer.
